Inv. 643, medal of Max von Pettenkofer and Robert Bunsen, by Rudolf Mayer, c.1900, cast bronze, 81 mm, one faint spot, else a nice EF. $275

Often in this period, medals were cast first, and then smaller pieces were die-struck, using the cast as the model. I think this is the only cast I have had of a Mayer medal. He is one of the most important German medalists, in terms of the art of the medal.
